Make A Realistic Seahorse

Use a real seahorse as a guide when drawing a realistic drawing.

Seahorses are interesting sea creatures. They look like a cross between a shell and a fish, but are still considered fish. Seahorses are unusual because the male seahorse incubates the eggs before they hatch. Drawing a realistic seahorse will challenge most artist's abilities, because they have many small parts and unusual features. Make one seahorse the focal point of a drawing, or draw several of them to mimic their travels through the ocean.

Instructions

1. Draw the basic outline for the seahorse. Draw a small upright egg shape for the head. A little lower, draw a circle for the body. Attach another half circle to the base of the first circle to complete the body. Draw a curved line connecting the shapes for the tail. Add a long snout line to the face for a nose.

2. Draw the basic skeleton shape for the seahorse. Add the bumpy back and ridges on the tail and nose.

3. Add in all of the basic details, such as the sections of the body, the fins and eyes.

4. Sketch shading or coloring as desired to complete the seahorse. Look at a photo of a seahorse for a template for where to place shading or coloring. Use realistic colors, such as oranges and browns when coloring the seahorse.
