Among the many features included with Adobe Photoshop CS5 is the same powerful type/typography tool that was included in previous versions. With the typography tool in Photoshop, you can add text, captions and even full paragraphs to your photos in the location of your choosing. It doesn't matter what kind of photo you have or what image format it is in; you can add typography to any photo.
Instructions
1. Right-click on your digital photo, move your mouse cursor over "Open with" and select "Adobe Photoshop CS5" from the list of compatible programs. It may take a moment for Photoshop to load.
2. Click and hold your mouse button on the "Horizontal Type Tool" in the "Tools" palette on the left side of the Photoshop window. A menu will open up onscreen; select either the "Horizontal" or "Vertical" tool.
3. Select the desired font and font style; e.g., bold or underlined. To resize the text, move your mouse cursor to one of the four corners of the text layer and click and drag your mouse when the cursor turns into a double-sided arrow. Double-click the text once you get it to the right size to apply the size change.
4. Click the "File" menu and select "Save As" to save a new copy of your photo with the typography added to it. Select the "JPEG" format if you don't plan on editing the text in the photo again; otherwise, select "PSD." If you save it as a PSD image file, you will be able to open it, select the text and make changes to its style and positioning in the photo.
