Find Artisan Products In Mexico

You long for some authentic Mexican art made by very talented citizens but you keep finding garbage. Flitting off to a tourist shop in Cancun or another major city is going to get you nothing but frog and sombrero ashtrays. You can find artisan products in Mexico by going off the beaten path and following a few simple tips.

Instructions

1. Steer clear of any shop marked “tourist.” Ditto goes for trying to find artisan products at the airport.

2. Find smaller shops in smaller cities. Some of the best art is off the beaten path. Rent a car for a weekend and go town hopping to see what you can find.

3. Ask around. If someone is wearing the coolest jewelry or an awesome sculpture graces someones garden, ask where they got it. Also ask shopkeepers, taxi drivers and other local folks where you can find some cool art.

4. Find some artist markets. Look in the paper, ask your hotel manager or inquire from local folks where to find them.

5. Shop the streets. You never know what treasures you’ll encounter from a man selling painted masks off of a roadside blanket.
