Draw Anime Sneakers

Developing shoe designs which stand out is challenging and fun.

As many beginning artists realize quickly, drawing costumes for anime characters can be a challenge. It requires taking real life fashion and translating it into an anime drawing. Sneakers are no exception to this rule. Along with requiring fashion sense, artists need specific knowledge of human anatomy to create eye catching anime sneakers. The best way to overcome this hurtle is to use the basic elements of cartoon and still-life drawing. After getting a handle on these principles, beginning artists can quickly create their own anime sneakers

Instructions

Study Sneakers and Feet

1. Review the reference picture of sneakers. You can find a reference picture online. Study the form and build of the shoes and take notes of areas which seems challenging to draw such as the laces, side designs, and bottoms.

2. Sketch the basic shape of the sneakers. Work quickly and do not try to create a finished picture. Concentrate on understanding draw sneakers. Focus on drawing specific parts of the sneakers such as the soles, laces and sides. Review the reference picture whenever needed while drawing.

3. Look at the shape of your foot and practice drawing it onto paper. Draw quickly and try to memorize the different ways the foot can fall and bend. Practice overlapping the outline of a shoe over the sketches of your foot. Add an anime touch to your drawings by simplifying details and shading of the shoe. Continue to practice drawing until you feel comfortable creating anime sneakers.

Draw Your Anime Sneakers

4. Sketch the basic shape of the feet. Draw two rectangles to map out their placement and pose. Lightly draw the organic lines of each foot by following the rectangles as a guide. Avoid drawing the feet with detail such as individual toes and veins.

5. Draw the shape of the shoes over the feet. Work lightly and space each shoe's outline about 1/2 inch away from the foot. Simplify parts of the outline such as the shoes heel and laces to keep an anime feel to the drawing. Erase any parts of the feet that are now covered.

6. Pencil in the inner details of your shoes. Start by drawing the designs found on the sides of the shoe. Do not make the designs too complex - focus on keeping them as simple as possible. Sketch the bottoms of the shoes if visible. Create the shoes laces by drawing zigzag lines along the top of the shoe. Avoid drawing the knot of the laces onto the shoe, and keep an anime effect by only drawing the lacing pattern.

7. Review the drawing and erase any extra smudges and pencil markings found. Review the proportions and correct and mistakes found. Ink the drawing by tracing over the lines with a black pen. Work slowly and correct any mistakes found before inking. Erase all pencil markings for a professional look. Shade the shoes designs and darker portions by using a cross hatching method with your pen.
