Tessellations
Tessellations are kind of like puzzles. A tessellation is one shape repeated and connected over and over again, with no overlapping or gaps. Each shape fits perfectly into the next shape. Tessellations are always polygons or closed shapes, but that doesn't mean you can make tessellations with all polygons. The most common polygons used for tessellations are squares, triangles and hexagons. Follow these steps to make your own tessellation.
Instructions
Paper Cut Method
1. Start with one of the basic polygons on a piece of paper: a square, triangle or hexagon.
2. Draw any kind of line through the shape: diagonal, zigzag or curvy.
3. Draw another line through the shape.
4. Cut along the lines to cut out four different shapes.
5. Place the outside corners of your original shape together and tape. Now, you have a new shape.
6. Place that shape on a piece of paper and trace the shape.
7. Move the shape to the right when you are done tracing, so it interlocks with the first traced shape. Repeat as many times as you want.
