Make A Funny Origami Hat

Learning basic origami folds can be entertaining and educational. Both children and adults can enjoy the simple act of precise folding to create unusual and beautiful items out of paper. Not all origami needs to be classic or beautiful, however. Sometimes it can just be amusing or fun, like this hat project.

Instructions

1. Start with a standard newspaper with four pages. Make the newspaper sheets into an even square shape by trimming one edge so that all four sides are even.

2. Place the newspaper on a table in front of you so that it looks like a diamond. Fold the top point of the diamond down to align with the bottom point.

3. Fold the left point down to align with the bottom point. Fold the right point down to align with the bottom point. The newspaper again has a diamond shape with two triangular flaps on the top layer.

4. Fold the left flap up until it reaches the top of the diamond. Crease this fold well. Repeat with the right flap.

5. Fold the left flap out to to an angle to the left of the center triangle so that it protrudes and resembles a horn. Crease this fold well. Repeat with the right flap.

6. Fold only the top layer of the bottom of the diamond up to overlap and align with the triangle shape in the center of the hat.

7. Fold the left point of the diamond under by approximately one inch. Repeat with the right point.

8. Take the bottom point and fold this sheet behind the hat to align with the center triangle shape.

9. Tape the points to secure the hat, if necessary.

10. Decorate the hat with markers or paint to give it a whimsical flair.
