Make An Art Cable

Art cables allow for display and a safe drying place for kid's paintings.

Display your child's artwork without the mess of tape and the damage of thumbtacks. Art cables are decorative displays for artwork. The cable is a simple wire hung between two blocks. These blocks are decorated and attached to the wall using minimum hardware. Childrens' artwork is then displayed by clipping it to the wire. Replacing art work is simplified by the clips that attach the pieces to the wire.

Instructions

1. Acquire two unfinished wood blocks. Plain and decorative ones are available at home improvement stores in the decorative molding section. The blocks should be 3 to 6 inches in diameter with a flat back.

2. Paint the front and sides of the wood blocks with your choice of color. Add a design to match the room's existing theme. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly. Attach the picture hanging hardware to the back of each block as per the packaging instructions.

3. Find the center on the face of each wooden block. Attach one eye bolt at the center point of each block.

4. Measure desired length of wire. Cut wire with 8 additional inches for wrapping. Example: For 24 inches of display room, cut 32 inches of wire.

5. Slide 2 inches of one end of the wire through the eye bolt. Fold the wire back over the eye bolt and twist together. Repeat for attaching other end to second block.

6. Measure and mark on the wall where to install the art cable. Hang each block according to hanging hardware instructions. The wire will drape slightly after being hung. Display artwork by attaching clips of choice to wire and artwork.
