Make A Byzantine Bracelet

Byzantine Bracelet

A Byzantine bracelet is a bracelet composed of a series of jump rings. This type of bracelet is created by joining several jump rings to create a pattern of rings that form the length of the bracelet. The jump rings can be made from a variety of metals, both base metals and precious metals. Byzantine bracelets containing precious metal, such as gold or silver, jump rings are much more valuable than those containing base metal jump rings.

Instructions

Make a Byzantine Bracelet

1. Purchase a package of open jump rings. These are jump rings that are not soldered together. They contain a tiny slit to allow for joining them together.

2. Begin by making a double ring chain that is three links long. Hold two jump rings between your thumb and forefinger, and slip two more rings onto them and then two onto those.

3. Fold back the last two rings on the chain in opposite directions.

4. Fold down the next two rings, the center rings of the chain link, to meet the previously folded rings.

5. Attach two new jump rings to rings peeking out among the folded rings.

6. Attach a double ring chain of two links to the previously attached jump rings, and you have created your first Byzantine link.

7. Repeat the steps above to create as many links as needed to fit the circumference of your wrist.

8. Attach the ring and the lobster clasp of the jewelry clasp to the ends of the bracelet by slipping them onto the end jump rings.
