Make Wine Drip Bottles Using Old Crayons

Wine bottles laced with melted candle wax make attractive decorations that hark back to Old Europe and simpler times, when a bottle of wine slaked thirst and inspired the soul, then transformed into a candlestick, which became covered with melted paraffin. Different colored candles would streak the bottle with different shades of wax. For those who cannot wait to create this effect by burning candles in wine bottles over a period of weeks, making drip bottles with old crayons is a quick and fun craft.

Instructions

1. Peel off the paper labels on the old crayons

2. Place wine bottles upright on sheets of old newspaper.

3. Ignite the butane torch or barbecue lighter and adjust the flame to low.

4. Hold a crayon while wearing work gloves at an angle near the neck of the wine bottle.

5. Wave the flame from the torch slowly underneath the crayon, allowing the wax to melt and drip along the neck of the bottle.

6. Move the crayon and torch around the bottle to cover the glass in wax drippings.

7. Use different crayons to layer the dripped wax in colors.

8. Place a taper candle in the bottle neck to complete the project. If the candle is too narrow, wrap the stem with a tissue, then wrap the tissue with a strip of aluminum foil and insert in the bottle neck.

9. Allow the craft to cool completely before touching.
